The Heights

The Heights is one of Houston’s collective favorite areas — and if there are naysayers, we don’t know ’em. Located just northwest of Downtown Houston, this neighborhood maintains a cozy neighborhood feel while being super close to the heart of the city. With 100-year-old Victorian-style houses lining tree-lined streets, mom-and-pop retail, and some of the best restaurants in the city, The Heights is a popular place to call home for longtime Houston residents and newcomers alike.

We can’t talk about the Heights without mentioning its main stretch, 19th Street. We recommend grabbing a small-batch house-roasted brew from Boomtown Coffee, then browsing the record stores, boutiques, and specialty shops nearby. If you’re stuck on what to eat for dinner, we recommend taking a quick drive down Shepherd Drive to get some craving inspo — cutting straight through the area, you can’t go far without settling on one of the amazing food options that line this street. While it’s considered to be much more laid-back than Houston’s nightlife hub, Midtown, the Heights has no shortage of cocktail spots, breweries, and chill patio situations (most of which are super dog-friendly!) — McIntyres, Heights Bier Garten, and Eight Row Flint are some of our favorites.
