The Ultimate Moving Checklist

By | Uncategorized

No one likes moving, but sometimes an opportunity that you just can’t pass up presents itself, and the only way you can take advantage of it is to move. The Houston area is one of the fastest growing cities in the state of Texas, which means more people are moving there every day. In case Houston is on your list of cities to consider, we’ve put together the ultimate “Moving to Houston” checklist to help make your move a little less stressful. Step One: Find an Apartment You want to have somewhere to live when you get to Houston so that you don’t have to spend days or weeks in a hotel while you search for a new house or apartment. Start by figuring out your living expenses — establish a baseline using your city’s median rental rates. In Houston, the median rental rate as of October of 2018 is $1,082 per month, but that cost can vary dramatically depending on your needs. For instance, a studio apartment will cost you around $784 a month while a three-bedroom home will cost an average of $1,434 a month. Make sure you aren’t budgeting more than 30 percent of your income for housing costs. If you’re moving to the city for a new job, try to negotiate a relocation package with your new boss. Once you’ve found a potential rental, take some time to research the neighborhood — things like walkability, public transportation, shopping, restaurants and nightlife can all help you determine…

Best Places To Work In 2018: Smart City Apartment Locating

By | Houston, Uncategorized

Smart City Apartment Locating Is A 2018 Best Place to Work, According to Our Employees on Glassdoor Smart City Apartment Locating is pleased to announce we are among the winners of the annual Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards, a list of the Best Places to Work in 2018. Unlike other awards, there was no self-nomination process, instead it’s entirely based on feedback our employees have voluntarily and anonymously shared on Glassdoor. To determine the winners of the awards, Glassdoor evaluates all company reviews shared by employees over the past year. This year, we are proud to be recognized as a Best Place to Work among companies with less than 1,000 employees according to those based in the U.S. A huge thank you goes out to all our employees who took the time to share their perspectives on what it’s like to work here. We appreciate all the valuable feedback as it only helps us to improve. Below are just a few words employees shared on Glassdoor that contributed toward the award and that made us feel incredibly honored to be recognized: “Wouldn’t want to work anywhere else!!”-Employee “Smart City has changed my life, I never thought I could be a super driven woman with a career I care so much about until I found a company that values the same things that I do. Smart City is a values-based company, there is hardly anything that would drive me away from this team of people. Smart City puts a huge emphasis on…

Houston Apartments With Exposed Brick That Pinterest Would Love

By | Uncategorized

What is it about exposed brick that makes us feel so bad and boujee? They’re a welcomed change from bland white walls that can either make you feel super chic and modern or super crazy and confined. So get your favorite Instagram filters ready. Invite all your friends over. Add that person you’ve been gawking over for weeks on Snapchat. You’re going to want to show these apartments off. Galleria Tate At Tanglewood The accent brick arches at this property are subtle but badass which we truly appreciate. That’s not the only bit of luxury here, though. This complex has a state-of-the-art fitness center and yoga/spin room. Plus they decided to be extra AF and added a golf simulator to the mix. You’ll be Galleria livin’ without the Galleria chaos here. Chateux DiJon Sticking with the same ‘hood, the next property could not be more ideally located. Only a few blocks separate it from all the shopping in the Galleria and it has super easy access to the Southwest Fwy and 610 Loop. There are five pools on the property for when you want to play Goldilocks and try each and every one until you find the perfect spot. If you’re unsure about whether you’ll survive the Texas heat (don’t worry, we are too), this property offers short team leases!  Century Galleria Lofts Ok, last Galleria property, I swear. Super close again to Southwest Fwy and 610 W Loop access. Grab yourself a stylish writing desk and feel like a modern-day…

Renovated Apartments In Houston That Are Stylish AF

By | Uncategorized

Keep this on the DL, but renovated units give you the best bang for your buck. You get that new new look for a lower price than the actual new kid on the block is charging. Properties that have been renovated have old bones but splurged on a much needed face-lift and we love them for that. In our humble opinion, here are some of the most stylish renovated properties in Houston: Midtown This property’s renovations are GORG. We’re loving the new granite countertops and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen as well as the wood-style flooring. Each unit is equipped with its own private balcony where you can relax and watch your fellow Houstonians pass on by. It’s perfectly located in the Midtown neighborhood near more bars and restaurants than you could dream of. Beer Market Co. just opened down the street so stroll on over and grab a beer every Sunday while you catch your favorite football team throw the pigskin. Pricing starts at $1339 for one bedrooms and $1759 for two bedrooms if you’ve got a roomie in mind! Briarforest Killin’ it with that custom cabinetry and brushed nickel hardware, this property went from drab to fab with their recent renovations. Units now feature granite countertops, crown molding in the living/dining areas, and large walk-in closets in the bedrooms. Prime location near George Bush Park and our favorite place to spend an entire day and paycheck, Target. Rain or shine there are activities nearby to help kill…

What’s Up, Houston? August 24-27, 2017

By | Uncategorized

Houston, we have a problem. Weather stations have yet to confirm or deny whether or not the city of Houston will be under water this weekend. But, fear not! Whether you’re preparing for the worst or ignoring all warning signs of potential flooding, we want to prepare you for a few days of fun in the hopes that we’re not on total lockdown! There’s quite a bit going on around town this weekend. The Houston Dynamo and Dash both have games scheduled and Restaurant Week is still happening daily. But we’ve listed a few more events in the greater Houston area to fill the last weekend of August before we say goodbye to the summer months and accept the fact that we’re in the home-stretch of 2017! Thursday, August 24th Astros v Nationals at Minute Maid Park The last of the three-game series between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals is this Thursday at Minute Maid Park. Dallas Keuchel will be pitching for the ‘Stros and he’s been heating up by allowing only one run in the last two games that he’s started. The game will begin at 7:10 pm and tickets are starting at only $15 so head on down for a cheap night at the ballpark (unless you’re buying beer, then bring your entire paycheck). Houston Astros Shawn Wayans It’s hard to look at Shawn Wayans and not see Kevin Copeland from White Chicks, but we’re encouraging you to give it a shot! He’s headlining at Houston Improv…

Unique Coffee Shops In Houston

By | Uncategorized

I’m sure you knew it was coming, but we’re about to hit you with the most hipster of all the blogs. There is nothing quite like finding a corner table at a coffee shop, opening your laptop, and pretending to be doing something really important when you’re actually just browsing Reddit. The shop has got to be local because chains are too mainstream, there must be indie/folk music playing in the background, and at least one barista with a sleeve of tattoos. As much fun as it is to make fun of hipsters, they might be on to something. These are some of the most unique, tastiest coffee shops in Houston: Throughgood Coffee Throughgood Coffee in the Heights serves coffee with a cause. Whether you’re just looking for a cup of coffee or want to grab some tea and a snack, this place delivers the best of all three. The company began by serving meals to the homeless and has since founded an organization called Temenos Community Development Corporation that serves people transitioning from challenging lives to more stability. The reclaimed interior walls make for a cozy setting to sit and enjoy your cup o’ joe. Open weekdays at 6:30 a.m. and weekends at 8 a.m. 732 West 27th Down House Coffee The mission of this hip Heights spot is to deliver specialty coffee, a chef-driven menu, and an amazing craft bar in an atmosphere full of positivity.
