Where to Celebrate the Fourth of July in Austin, Houston and Dallas

By | Dallas

When you stop to think about it, there isn’t another holiday like Independence Day. Rather than exchanging gifts, caroling or gathering for elaborate meals, Americans throughout the country let their hair down and, to put it honestly, party hearty. If you question whether Americans enjoy having fun on the Fourth of July, consider the following: The Fourth of July is the holiday during which Americans drink the most beer, with beer sales exceeding $1 billion in 2017. Adults in the U.S. spend more than $568 million on wine in celebration of the Fourth of July. About 16,000 formal fireworks displays are held in the United States on July 4, not including unofficial, “backyard” displays. Americans spend more than $825 million on fireworks for the Fourth of July. Americans consume around 150 million hot dogs during the Fourth of July weekend every year. They also spend an approximate total of $6.9 billion on food for Independence Day. About 62 percent of Americans will participate in a picnic to celebrate the Fourth of July. With so much partying to do this July, you won’t want to miss out on the action. Luckily, we’ve compiled a list of the best Fourth of July celebrations across the Lone Star State in 2019. Fourth of July Celebrations in Austin While tens of millions of people usually travel at least 50 miles from home over the Fourth of July weekend, you don’t need to follow their lead. That’s because there’s plenty to do in and around…

Dog-friendly neighborhoods in Dallas

By | Dallas, Dog Park, Drinks

Fun fact: Dallas is home to more than 600,000 cats and dogs! We knew when we moved here, that Dallas was a pet-friendly city, but that number is crazy given that our population in Dallas is about double that. So essentially, every other person in the city owns a pet! Dog owners are a special breed of pet parent. They love showing off pictures and bringing their companion on all kinds of outdoor adventures, but finding a place to live that allows dogs, isn’t as easy as finding a beer garden that does! So, if you’re new here or need some help deciding where to settle down and explore with your furry friend, we have the hook up on the most dog-friendly areas in the Dallas area! WEST VILLAGE West Village takes the top spot for one main reason: Mutt’s Canine Cantina. Mutt’s is both a bar and a beautiful dog park, that has both a small dog and big dog park, so your dog is safe to play with others his or her own size! And you can grab a cold one and hang by the yellow picnic tables and socialize will you wait for your dog to release every ounce of energy. Or mix it up from Mutt’s and hang at the outdoor patio of Village Burger Bar or Mi Cocina. Apartment recommendation: The One Oak Grove is right across the street from Mutt’s and comes with its own mini dog park area and a full dog wash…

Q&A with Smart City Founder and CEO, Cassie Brown

By | Uncategorized

If you’ve ever come to a Smart City function, chances are you’ve seen our fearless leader, Cassie Brown, climb onto a table and give a speech so encouraging and genuine that you left with goosebumps and feeling more inspired than you thought possible; after all, she is the ultimate hype-(wo)man! But if you haven’t seen it in person, we thought you still deserved to get a glimpse of Cassie’s passion and what makes her a small business champion/real estate disrupter. So, we pulled her into a room and asked her all kinds of questions. Grab a snack and check out how the conversation went! Just going to jump right in–what gets you out of bed in the morning? The people I work with and the purpose of the company! I get excited that I don’t have to wake up and be somebody else or put a suit and tie on and be anything but me. I get to come to work as myself, hang out with people that I really like hanging out with and solve really cool business problems–my brain gets to work all day. So your eyes open in the morning and you think, “Yes! Problem solving”? Most days, yeah! I love going to work. Honestly, any job will have bad days. There are some days where I think I’m not suited for this. But it was a transition. I didn’t just wake up one day and become the CEO of a 20 million dollar company. It’s been…

7 Apartment-Friendly Ways To Improve Your Environmental Footprint

By | Apartments, Dallas, Earth Day, Environmental Footprint

Conservation has become a pretty big buzzword in the last decade, especially in fast-growing, highly-populated cities like the big Texas metros. As more and more people pour into our cities, local infrastructures begin to feel the strain and environmental impact of the increased population, thus creating a need to conserve our local, natural resources. Here are seven quick tips on what you can do to help live smarter, reduce your carbon footprint, and save a little money at the same time. 1. Install LED Bulbs & Fixtures Photo by rawpixel.com via Pexels One simple way to become more energy efficient is to install LED light bulbs in your apartment. Alternatively, if you’re not big on overhead lighting or replacing existing light bulbs in your unit, think about adding lamps with LED bulbs to utilize when you’re home instead. They’ll help conserve energy, while also providing varying kinds of artistic lighting–win/win! However, if you do go the route of swapping out the bulbs, make sure to stash the bulbs you’re replacing, so you can take your LED bulbs with you at move-out. Most LED light bulbs last around 50,000 hours, which equates to 11 years if used for 12 hours a day (so, pretty much forever). Plus, you paid for them, so keep them! 2. Utilize Black-Out Curtains Photo by Jon Tyson via Unsplash Black-out curtains are dual-purpose and vampire approved, since they’re essential to creating a great sleeping environment and they help your energy bill. According to the U.S. Department…

Image by Bruce Mars via Unsplash 1: Home/Gym Workouts Apartment gyms and home workouts are severely underutilized and underrated. You can get your blood pumping without leaving the property!
