The spicy smells of cinnamon and pine, a peppermint mocha or mug of cocoa, and of course the sparkle and glitz on everything ranging from store decor to aunt Liz’s sweater; these are just a few of the things we love about the holiday season. But they don’t call it cuffing season for just anything! That’s because of the way Christmas time and cold weather lure people into spending time together! Whether it’s a romantic date or girls’ night out; there’s something about donning a beanie-scarf combo, spiking a mug of cider, and going out to view all of the bright, colorful lights! If you’re craving some holiday magic and are willing to venture outside of Dallas proper into the surrounding DFW areas, we’ve compiled a list of five all-out Christmas light displays perfect for the occasion.

1. Prairie Lights, Grand Prairie

Let 4 million lights dazzle you through a two-mile stretch of holiday magic at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie. Stop halfway through the drive to browse gift shops, explore the snow maze, have a snack, and even snap pics with Saint Nick himself at the Holiday Village. Tickets for the Prairie Lights can be purchased online  for $35 per car; if you’re feeling a little EXTRA, admission is only $80 for a limo!

2. Gift of Lights, Fort Worth

You’ll be quoting a blend of two Will Ferrell movies when you bring Christmas to the Racetrack to take in more than 100-holiday displays and a million twinkling lights at the largest speedway in Texas! Tickets are $25, but you’ll only need one per carload; so if you’re splitting the cost, get nice and close because THE MORE THE MERRIER! Turn the truck bed into a stadium or pack the car, and cruise through the festivities at Texas Motor Speedway.

3. Parade of Lights, Grapevine

The largest lighted Christmas parade in North Texas is a tradition that graces historic downtown Fort Worth every year! Over 100 glowing entries including floats, classic cars, and marching bands, will dance across Sundance Square at 7 pm on Thursday, December 7th. Plenty of viewing areas are available, but get there early and snag a seat near the street for a fee. More information, as well as a parade route and parking map, can be found on the Grapevine website.

4. Vitruvian Lights, Addison

Millions of LED lights lace more than 200 sparkling trees in this 12 acre Addison park creating a beautiful holiday wonderland worth walking through (and live posting) with your crew, family, and/or sweetheart. IMO, a solo stroll wouldn’t be any less magical either. Admission is free, and the sparkle stays up at Vitruvian Park through Monday, January 1st. Find more information online.

5. Interlochen Lights Display, Arlington

For ten nights only, the Interlochen neighborhood in Arlington welcomes the public to visit and admire the festive dressings of over 200 homes and lawns during one of the most prominent drive-thru light displays in North Texas. Admission is free but traffic is bumper to bumper, so go slow and pack some snacks. Festivities run every night from December 15th through Christmas day from 7-11pm. Find more info and directions at arlington.org.
