We absolutely love Southwest Austin! It still has the “coolness” of South Austin and the 78704, but it’s so much more affordable. Here you get the most bang for your buck and you’re likely to find a wide range of prices to fit your budget! Plus it’s just outside of the busy city, so it tends to be very quiet and clean with beautiful Hill Country views and lots of green space.
The Veloway Park is nearby- a circular 3-mile bike bath only dedicated to bikes and rollerblades- and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is close as well! The southwest location is great because it’s a short drive to downtown, and it’s the closest area to wineries just outside of Austin. All my wine loving people need to move here ASAP because places like Fall Creek Vineyards, Duchman Family Winery, and Trattoria Lisina & Mandola Vineyard are amazing and so close by!
The Austin Zoo is nearby too and is a great place to spend the day with family or friends. Plus they host multiple events throughout the year- like Easter egg hunts, fun runs, and Boo at The Zoo! This area is really great for people who enjoy the quiet and clean side of Austin, and who are looking for affordable rent while being close to amenities downtown.
Drive South/Southwest past the Austin city limits and find yourself in the Texas Hill Country. This expanse of rolling hills plays host to a number of small towns with all the charm of old Texas.
