By | Apartments, Austin, Earth Day, Reduce Your Footprint, Spring

Conservation has become a pretty big buzzword in the last decade, especially in fast-growing, highly-populated cities like the big Texas metros. As we continue to see an influx of people pouring into our cities, Austin bis starting to feel the strain and environmental impact of the increased population, thus creating a need to conserve our local, natural resources. So, to help do our part, here’s seven quick tips on ways to live smarter, reduce your carbon footprint, and save some money along the way. 1. Install LED Bulbs & Fixtures Photo by Singkham via Pexels Installing LED light bulbs is a great and simple way to be more energy efficient. If you’re not big on overhead lighting or replacing existing light bulbs in your unit, consider adding lamps with LED bulbs instead. This conserves energy while also providing varying kinds of artistic mood lighting, it’s a win, win! However, if you do end up swapping out all the bulbs your apartment, make sure to stash the original bulbs, so you can take your LED bulbs with you at move-out. Most LED light bulbs last around 50,000 hours, which equates to 11 years if used for 12 hours a day (so, pretty much forever). Plus, you paid for them, so keep them!   2. Utilize Black-Out Curtains Photo by Jon Tyson via Unsplash Black-out curtains are dual-purpose and vampire approved, since they aid both your sleeping environment and energy bill. It’s That Time Of Year Again…Spring Cleaning!

By | Apartments, Austin, Spring, Spring Cleaning

Photo Cred Open up your windows and let that Spring air in! We all know that Austin has some killer Springtime weather and that also means it’s the best time to get some deep cleaning done! There is no better feeling than coming home to a clean place and being able to relax. So, put a day aside to get cleanin’! Here is a list of tips that will help you get to those not-so-obvious spots: Pick a room to start in! It may be easier to go room by room instead of doing everything at once. Remember, Spring cleaning is about getting into all of those nooks and crannies you don’t usually get to when you’re just picking up the place. Cleaning can be tedious, so throw on some good tunes and get to it! Dusting Yes, dusting is no fun, but it is a must! Start high, get all of the dust and cobwebs off of the ceiling, molding, and corners. Then move to the middle, wipe down all of your shelves! Make sure you pick up all of your decorations and knick-knacks; that way you get the entire shelf and be sure to clean the decor along the way. Another big one is blinds, they collect dust like crazy, and they deserve a good cleaning now and then. Moving to the bottom, the worst part; baseboards! It makes a huge difference when your baseboards don’t have a thick film of dust on them. You may not notice…

Spring Clean Your Apartment (For Real)

By | Apartments, Austin, Spring, Spring Cleaning

Having a clean apartment clears your mind. It frees your soul. It opens doors for new realities. But really, it just saves you time and money in the long run when you eventually leave your apartment. We know what you’re thinking: why would I waste my time cleaning my apartment now when I can just get it all in one clear shot when I move out. It’s not like you own it, or anything. There’s probably very little investment besides that one photo you hung up when you attempted to make a photo wall and realized how impossible it actually is (#pinterestfail). How about that little thing you count on when you move out called “the deposit?” Depending on your complex or landlord, you paid anywhere from $200 to a full months rent that you are expecting returned! Well, not if you leave it in the hot mess that it’s in now. Here are a few things to focus on while you dust that shelf for the first time since…never. Good God, man, what leaked in there? | Your Fridge Fun fact: if you let something sticky sit long enough, you not only won’t be able to get it off, other things will stick to it, creating one giant sticky puddle. You don’t want to have to pay for a brand new fridge because you thought the strawberry leakage that mixed with the broken egg would just dissipate. Clean that ish immediately. Good God, man, what were you cooking? |…
