Sure, Austin is known for South by Southwest (SXSW) and Austin City Limits, two of the nation’s most iconic annual music festivals. But what about good ole’ regular, everyday music shows? Consider any of the following as some of Austin’s best music venues. Many are free, many are themed and all are ready to satisfy your live-performance whims any day of the week. Austin’s Top Live Music Venues These venues make Austin a live performance mecca for new and transplanted Austinites alike, plus the music-loving tourists who flock to the city year-round. 1. The Continental Club A list of Austin’s musical must-sees would be incomplete without the Continental Club. For nearly seven decades, this South Congress spot has held a gravitational pull over some of the best free and ticketed shows in the entire city. Owner Steve Wertheimer — who also manages a few other prime music venues on this list — revamped the club from its swanky supper club roots to be the multi-genre, nationally acclaimed music hub it is today. The Continental Club hosts performances every week. Blues, roots, rockabilly, country, classic rock and more blast from its central stage, which has seen the likes of everyone from Stevie Ray Vaughan to The Replacements. SXSW Tips & Tricks (To Make You Look And Feel Like A Pro!)

By | Austin, Bars, Live music, March Madness, South by Southwest Interactive Festival, SXSW

PHOTO BY MERRICK ALES SXSW is officially here and let’s be honest, it gets CRAZY in Austin! Some of you who are newer to the area may not know exactly what this ten day craze fest is all about; the best way to explain it is as a big collaboration of music, interactive media, film, conferences, and so much more. Think of SXSW as a vast industry showcase in Austin with exclusive artists and speakers from all over the world and surprise shows at various venues all packed into two weeks. We know SXSW can be daunting and pricey! So we’re here to help you become the expert! #1 Pro Tip: Don’t bother overspending on a badge or wristband! For the most part, SXSW is first-come-first-serve, meaning if a venue or bar is at capacity you will still wait in line like everyone else. There are so many events you can RSVP to, and for FREE! Unless someone is giving you a badge or wristband for free, we def recommend taking it! Regardless of how you get in, discovering artists you’ve never seen before and having a good time is the Austin way of doing things! #2 Pro Tip: Nothing is guaranteed and everything is super spontaneous and last minute! Which is why we recommend keeping up with social media accounts. Twitter and specific Instagram accounts such as @WhereWhenWhatAustin and @SXSW to get the inside scoop on last minute shows and events. #3 Pro Tip: Wear comfortable clothing and shoes!…

Fun And Festive Fall Things To Do In Austin

By | Austin, Food, Halloween, Live music

Summer is over, and Fall has finally crept up on us. Thank goodness the temperature is finally below 90 degrees! Now that the weather has changed, it’s time to think of new season things to do that don’t always involve swimming or being outside. We have some ideas up our sleeve that we think you’ll like too. So kick back, enjoy that hot apple cider and pumpkin scented candle you’re burning– and read this! HAUNTED HOUSES Looking for a good scare? Check out Austin’s House of Torment! With three frightening and thrilling attractions, this will for sure give you the adrenaline rush you’re seeking! They also have food and drinks to warm you up before you get scared cold. Check out the grueling Graveside Manor (featuring a goul nun who will likely scare you out of your socks). Or, step inside an old prison with deranged beings that will haunt your every move. If that’s not enough for ya’ll, they also have a creepy Carnival with clowns that will leave you fearful  (if you have clown phobia, we do not recommend this) . HALLOWEEN MOVIE WATCH PARTIES Since Stranger Things Season Two just released today on Netflix, we were feeling super inspired to write this blog post for ya’ll. Invite over all your friends for a Stranger Things watch party and grab snacks, and pumpkin beer (PSA: Trader Joe’s has everything pumpkin related). Best of.. South Lamar Happy Hours!

By | Austin, Food, Live music

It’s Friday, and we know it’s the weekend and you’re itching to get through the last few hours of work. Ya’ll are probably racing through rush hour traffic to get to the closest bar with a great happy hour to wash away all your stress from your week! Nothing beats a cold beer, live music, and good eats after a long week– ATX style! We’re really digging the South Lamar (also known as SoLa for short) area and all the awesome happy hours that it has for Austinites. South Lamar is located in the South Central part of Austin, also known as the 78704. Most restaurants and bars on this street are super laid back, relaxing, and even allow you to bring your dog to kick it with you. RED’S PORCH Our favorite happy hour is at the cool and casual– Red’s Porch. With views of the Greenbelt on their upper deck, and plenty of space for you and your coworkers to throw back brews at, this is the perfect place to decompress from a week of stress. Their happy hour is from 4pm-11pm and their food specials are from 4pm-7pm. Some of our favorite appetizers include the Red’s Chili Cheese Fries and the Red’s Queso (YUM!). The Red’s strawberry margaritas are so refreshing along with their seasonal draft beers. Image Source LAVACA STREET BAR Another one of our favorite places on SoLa, is the new Lavaca Street Bar! Austin live music red river district

Best of… Austin Live Music In The Red River Cultural District!

By | Austin, Live music

In Downtown Austin, lies a cultural district known as Red River. Here you can find any type of live music you’re into ranging from electronic to classic rock and roll. We went to a show last night at Mohawk on Red River to get our own live music experience. Entering in Mohawk, you’ll find 3 bars with an old fashioned style and charm that capture what Austin is. There is an indoor venue and an outdoor venue that both boast amazing shows and artists. Inside, is a more intimate small setting, while the outside venue is larger and built with a patio and a roof deck. The show first started off with local dance/electronic band, Capyac! Their sound is best described as jazzy, funk, electronic with a touch of hip hop. This band brought energy and good vibes to everyone around. To keep it funky and live up to the motto, “Keep Austin Weird”, they all wore costumes and put on a mini play at the beginning of their set. They always say they won’t stop playing at their shows until everyone is gettin’ groovy on the dance-floor! Next up wasTennyson, which is a sibling duo from Canada! Every in the crowd was in a trance when they went on. While, drummer Tess was on the drums, her brother Luke was on the synthesizer and vocals. The best way to describe their sound is a mixture of relaxed, melodious electronic and various chord progression sounds. Photo Credit: @CharlezFair Last but not least,…
