Move Into These Properties and Have Uber Cheap Utility Bills

by Audrey Swanson

LEED-certified properties are a sweet deal when it comes to freezing cold winters (a la what’s coming our way, like, now) and blistering summers (such as, oh I don’t know, every May through August in North Texas). They’re also fantastic for saving the world and stuff, too. They save money and resources and they positively impact the health of occupants by promoting renewable, clean energy. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a certification program that recognizes building practices and strategies that satisfy and earn points for certain prerequisites, and Dallas is full of ’em in the apartment realm.

We’ve picked out a handful of properties in different pockets of the city, most of them fairly new and beautifully upgraded with luxury amenities. A key aspect of being LEED-certified, though, is that even though you might be paying a little more for rent at a new and upscale building in a cool area, you’ll still be cutting costs by having lower water, electricity and other bills.

Plus, most of these guys are running some unbelievable deals right now, like one or two months totally free! So you will not only have green living initiatives, and therefore more affordable utility bills, but you’ll also have some rent chopped off the top of these buildings. We all know that here in Dallas, we don’t really deal well with cold, so don’t sweat cranking up the heater during these chillier months.
